More than 150 Illinois communities and thousands of community leaders have participated in the Community swap program since 1993. The program is a cooperative endeavor between Extension and community residents who gain a fresh perspective on their community by working in partnership with another, similar community. Outcomes include completed community projects such as parks, improvements to city infrastructure, and new directions in plans and an increased capacity among community residents to see their community’s strengths and weaknesses, and make decisions about the future with confidence.

Format & Time Required:

  • Six months lead time to develop partnership
  • Two planning meetings
  • One day-long visit
  • Two evening programs for the presentations

Topic: Leadership and Organizational Development and Community Development
