Local Economic Development

Participants will:

  1. Learn to access data on the web and download to a spreadsheet for manipulation and analysis.
  2. Learn basic tools for the analysis of the local economic structure.
  3. Learn how to interpret the results provided by the analytical tools.
  4. Analyze how events outside the community (gathered from assigned readings) have affected its local economy.
  5. Apply local economic base theory to the local economy and use it as one tool for analyzing economic development options which are being or have been discussed in the community.
  6. Engage community members in understanding the local economy.
 

Format & Time Required:

  • Internet course for one-credit or non-credit
  • 11 homeworks due on a weekly basis, final project which is a PowerPoint presentation
