Stand alone research-based programs are designed to improve competitive advantage for small rural retailers. The first two program units are “Retail Strategies for the 21st Century—Merchandising and Marketing” and “Retail Strategies for the 21st Century—Dynamic Store Display.” With funding from USDA Fund for Rural America, a study was conducted in four states, —Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Ohio—to determine characteristics of enduring and non-enduring business networks. A new business network is being launched in Nebraska involving owners of women’s apparel stores in rural Nebraska communities.

Format & Time Required:

  • A formal organizational meeting of the new network will be held in June 2004.
  • A small retailer’s conference is planned for early Spring 2005.
