Frustrated
business owners across the nation complain that today’s workers
no longer adhere to the theory, “An honest day’s work
for an honest day’s pay.” Workers rationalize poor ethical
behavior and play the blame game to shift accountability in the
workplace.
To
address these issues, the LSU AgCenter has developed a curriculum
using the Josephson Institute of Ethics’ six pillars of character—trustworthiness,
respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship—
to teach ethics in the workplace. This fun-filled, interactive curriculum
keeps audiences engaged through the use of skits, group activities
and games.
The
goal of the training is to teach the importance of modeling good
character in the workplace thereby increasing worker satisfaction,
company productivity and an improved work environment.
The
training module topics teach the six pillars of character and are
creatively entitled:
-
What Goes Around Comes Around—respect and
conflict resolution.
-
Actions Speak Louder Than Words—trustworthiness.
- You
Can Count on Me!—responsibility.
- Who
Said Life Is Fair?—fairness.
- You
Get What You Give—caring.
- We’re
All In This Together—citizenship.
- Making
the Right Choice—decision making.
- We
Are Family—team dynamics.
The
curriculum is designed for a six hour training but is adaptable
to suit the time constraints of both white and blue collar workers.
The curriculum has been successfully used with poultry processing
mid-management workers, executives, assembly line workers, and utility
company workers. |
