Cultural diversity is an opportunity for new partnerships to be
formed and new programming to be developed. The workshop will provide
an opportunity to hear and learn from the Native American perspective
when partnering, developing, and delivering program to a Native
American audience. The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College
and University of Minnesota Extension have partnered together to
learn from one another and share expertise around cultural competency,
community development and leadership programming in the areas of
data collection from Native American focus groups, development of
leadership training enhancements for a leadership curriculum to
be inclusive and respectful when Native Americans are participants
in a community development initiative, and relationship building
to work together successfully as a community coach and co-team leader
for the RCCI project. This workshop takes the partnership experiences
of the presenters around relationship building and program development
and delivery and incorporates it into a useful workshop which shares
approaches, tools and practical information and resources in working
with Native American audiences. Although this workshop focuses primarily
on the Native American culture, participants will gain insight into
partnering and programming that can be beneficial when working with
other culturally diverse audiences.
This
workshop will include an opportunity for experiential learning by
incorporating into the workshop tools developed and approaches used
when working with a culturally diverse audience. Objectives of the
workshop include enhancing the understanding of participants of
the cultural values of the Native American and providing suggestions
for creating inclusive and respectful programming. |
