Coaching for Community Change

The North Central Regional Center for Rural Development is offering Coaching for Community Change, a series comprised of three online sessions and a face-to-face coaching clinic. This training is part of Foundations of Practice, Component 3—Areas of Specialization and Emphasis.

Online Sessions (1:30 – 3 p.m. CDT)

      1. In looking at the coaching skills assessment sheet, what skills areas are you strong in? In which areas would you like to develop stronger skills? Are there important skills that we should add to the assessment? Did you find some skills areas listed that seem to not be strongly connected to the coaching venture? 
      2. Describe an idea or activity from Session One that you plan to incorporate into your practice as a coach.
      3. In what ways are the Kellogg coaches’ issues similar to your coaching issues? What did you learn that you can apply?
      4. How would you assess the readiness of the community? Where are they located on the grid? What does that location mean for the type of coaching you will need to do? 
      5. Share your examples of successful coaching for readiness, relationships, reflection, reach and resiliency.
      6.  What principles are important and why?

Coaching Clinic

Two on-site coaching clinics have been scheduled:

Indianapolis, Indiana

Boardroom at the Purdue Extension-Marion County office, Intech Park, 6640 Intech Blvd. Suite 120, Indianapolis, IN 46278. It is at the intersection of 456 and 71st. Lunch will be provided.

Sioux City, Iowa

ISU Design West, 1014 ½ Design Place, Sioux City, IA 51101, http://www.design.iastate.edu/ISUDesignWest/ (Please park in the Pro-Link Reality Lot on 3rd and Virginia Streets.) Lunch will be provided.

Instructor

The instructor is Mary Emery. She has been involved in coaching for community change projects for more than five years and has facilitated two gatherings with experienced coaches to learn more about this approach to community change work.'

Anticipated Audience

Extension professionals who are involved in community and organizational change initiatives or plan to participate in such an initiative.

Fees and Registration

Although you are strongly encouraged to attend both the online sessions and the coaching clinic, participants who would prefer to attend only one or the other should contact the instructor at memery@iastate.edu.
