Managing Community Conflict
November 29, December 6 and December 13, 2007
The purpose of this program is to enable Extension educators to deal more
effectively with community conflict. Content will include understanding
the nature of community conflict (sources of confl ict, confl ict spiral,
positions versus interests, and issues reframing), Extension educators’ roles,
interpersonal confl ict management skills (listening, speaking clearly with
intent, and managing emotions), and building collaborative efforts to deal
with controversial issues (principles of collaboration, stakeholders’ interests,
stages of collaboration, dealing with data/information and consensus building).
