| While
percentage gains among Hispanics occurred throughout the United States
between the 1990 and 2000 censuses, they were particularly pronounced
in the Midwest. After exploring national and regional change, attention
will be directed toward what happened within the 12 Midwestern states.
While rapid statewide increases occurred among the Hispanic population,
numerical and percentage variations are substantial when counties are
studied. Differences across rural counties are particularly great. Finally,
2000 census data on age, family characteristics and home ownership will
be compared for incorporated places in three nonmetropolitan counties
in Iowa. |
